After being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 13 I have had multiple spinal surgeries and have spent countless months in hospitals, most recently being in August 2015 where I underwent my 11th surgery.

These experiences have held a predominant place in my life's tapestry and have without a doubt helped mould my personality over the last 17 years.  However, this photo series has helped me to see, and to express, that I am so much more than my illness.

These photographs became a way through which I could express my creativity, an element of my personality that can often lie dormant when I am unwell.  The series also enabled me to develop and maintain a real sense of self while in hospital, a place which is often devoid of personality or individuality. I believe the amalgamation of the medical paraphernalia with my sense of humour, fashion and creativity helped me to tap into something which afforded me a deeper understanding of myself. Such knowledge is powerful when struggling to stay healthy as the better you know yourself the stronger you will be.

However, most importantly it kept me sane and allowed me to have some fun!!
